National dog day - celebrating our canine friends

2 min

A dog isn’t just part of the family – they are family.

I used to think “it’s only a dog” when co-workers would talk about not wanting to leave their dog at home whilst they went on a night out… fast forward 3 years and I’m now one of those people. As we all know the repeated lockdowns and cancellation of our favourite hobbies over last few years took a massive toll on our mental health; football for my husband and retail shopping for me. We were a support bubble for one of my friends and was helping her out with “doggie day care” whilst she went to work as a key worker. It wasn’t long before we fell in love with her dogs and spent a few months toying around the idea (persuading my husband) into getting our own dog.

We instantly fell in love with our long-haired Chihuahua, named Lumi. Without knowing it, this little thing has brought so much love and happiness into our lives. They say dogs come to when you need them most and in our case that’s 100% true.

At MBM Omega HQ we have a few dog owners, with one or two coming to the office occasionally. Some might think it would be a disruption to the working day but in our case it's an enhancement due to the comfort and joy they bring. See our former post about our other canine friends here and the benefits they can have in the workplace.

It was due to our collective love of dogs at MBM Omega that we came across National Dog Day which is celebrated on August 26th each year and was founded in 2004 by  Colleen Paige. Colleen is a Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Animal Rescue Advocate, Conservationist, Dog Trainer and Author, also the founder of many other notable days such as National Puppy DayNational Mutt Day, National Cat Day,
National Wildlife Day and many more philanthropic days to bring attention to the plight of animals around the globe and encourage adoption.

I’m already making plans to celebrate my little Lumi on the 26th, I think a trip to her favourite local tearoom is in order…. If you're stuck for ideas on how to celebrate your pup here’s a few ideas that might work for you https://www.nationaldogday.com/ways-to-celebrate
