Will Christmas Celebration This Year be Virtual or F2F?

2 min

Over the past couple of years this has been a difficult question to answer. The pandemic and all of the restrictions that came with it meant that there was no certainty over how we could celebrate Christmas. However, this year with all restrictions lifted many Christmas celebrations will see a welcome return to face-to-face events – with the virtual option always available for long distance or people who still prefer caution. So, as we return to the era of face-to-face Christmas celebrations what can we expect?

● A return to nostalgia and tradition. The restrictions of the past few years have meant that many people really missed old Christmas traditions that we took for granted. So, expect to see plenty of parties that bring nostalgia back to life.
● Going green for Christmas. Nearly a third of consumers claim to have stopped buying from a brand if its green credentials didn’t live up to expectations so sustainability and eco-friendliness are priorities for all of us now. As a result, we can expect to see this play a part in how Christmas celebrations are organised this year. That could be looking for venues that take steps to offset their carbon footprint, having a plastic-free event or choosing catering that is all locally sourced.
● Educational crossovers. With nearly half the UK population opting to learn a new skill during the first year of the pandemic, learning and growth have remained a theme for many of us. This can be translated into Christmas celebrations by focusing on the more fun side of education and integrating inspiration and ideas into the events that you hold. A laughter therapy workshop can be a fun way to integrate enjoyment and wellness, for example, as well as activities that help spark creativity or quick brain training competitions and tests (for prizes of course).
● Entertaining surprises. This is the first year in a while that many of us have been able to mingle at work events so excitement levels are likely to be high. Celebrations that stoke this with lots of surprises are going to be both memorable and popular. That could be something as simple as breathtaking performers at parties or bringing interactive elements in, such as immersive theatre or giving people the chance to create their own ice cream flavours.
● An element of excursion. With travel restrictions now lifting there is a renewed enthusiasm for incorporating excursions into Christmas celebrations this year. Hosting in iconic venues or historic buildings can bring an extra sense of occasion to any event.
● All the glamour. The pandemic has not been glamorous. In fact, many of us forgot what it was like to get dressed up and go all out on the glamour front. So, Christmas celebrations this year are likely to be glamour-heavy, whether that’s the decor or the dress code.

Most Christmas celebrations this year are likely to be face-to-face, rather than virtual, and these are some of the trends that are already emerging.
