Random Acts of Kindness: appreciation in the workplace

2 min

You never truly know what someone is dealing with daily, and a small, kind gesture or word of encouragement can transform their day. For Random Acts of Kindness Day, we want to share ways in which you can share your appreciation for others in the workplace.

At times, it can be difficult to make time and effort to nurture connections, especially within the workplace, but random acts of kindness can make a huge difference in the working environment. It just takes small actions to encourage and create a positive impact which leads to a happier, more connected, and productive workplace. We understand it can be difficult to know where to begin, so here are some ideas of random acts of kindness we will be implementing in our office.

An unexpected gesture

Everyone appreciates kind gestures, and whether its giving someone a compliment or offering to make them a hot drink, it will be noticed.

Expressing gratitude

There have been many studies showing how gratitude can be important in boosting mental health and well-being. People can express gratitude for anything: whether it’s someone who helped with a project or offered you useful advice. It can mean so much to someone to know they are appreciated.

Offering help

It can be difficult to juggle everything, and by offering to help a colleague when you see the opportunity to do so, it could alleviate any stress. Whether it’s helping a colleague carry something and holding the door open for them, or assisting with something a colleague may need a hand with - especially if there’s a looming deadline adding pressure. Offering help can be a reminder that you work as part of a team - there’s no shame in needing extra support to get the job done.

Celebrate success

By celebrating big successes and taking the time to recognise the efforts and achievements of your colleagues boosts team connections, morale, and rapport. This ensures that people feel valued and supported.

While it is important to show kindness to others, it is also vital to remember to treat yourself with care and understanding. This could be something as simple as taking a walk-in nature, practising mindfulness, or buying yourself a small treat; self-care is significant to nurturing energy levels, reducing stress, and boosting overall productivity.
