Business Intelligence reporting for sustainability

3 min

Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) has become a top priority for many businesses across the globe, and it’s not surprising.  Everything a business does impacts the planet and the enterprise’s bottom line. Fulfilling your ESG responsibilities makes sense, but the process is made much easier if you are able to embrace the move to an effective Business Intelligence (BI) reporting system. With a BI system in place, you can effectively analyse what your business processes cost and how to optimise for efficiency.

Sustainability is a key priority at MBM Omega and something that the business is continually working to improve. For example, our CEO sits on the industry’s environmental committee, which gives the organisation first-hand access to developments within our sector, enabling us to advise clients of new opportunities and innovations. Our bespoke software – which helps to streamline buying and improve efficiency – can be integrated with several other processes that are dedicated to sustainability, including an audit to improve sustainable purchasing. For organisations that are keen to improve this alongside better buying decisions and cost-effectiveness, there are many ways in which we can help.

The MBM Omega process

We have designed bespoke review software that will fulfil many functions, including generating cost avoidance forecasts and trend analysis on key measures. The process works in several stages, including the initial review with a follow-up several months later to discuss how implementation affected positive change.

Enhancing the review process for sustainability

In addition to the core MBM Omega review process, there are a number of recent enhancements that are now provided with a sustainability focus, including:

  • A green audit. This looks at current spending and the opportunities to integrate more sustainable and eco-friendly products. A line-by-line forecast simplifies decision-making and makes it easy to accept all recommendations to maximise the eco ratio or make a partial selection depending on the cost implication.
  • Single Use Plastics audit. By working on the same principle used for the green audit, this process will show you where your business is currently spending on products that are reliant on single-use plastic products, whether the product itself or its packaging, and how to replace these with more environmentally conscious alternatives.
  • Carbon neutral printing for branded collateral. Although many businesses have taken steps towards a paperless environment, printing remains a key resource. We offer a carbon-neutral printed matter solution that enables virtual instant quotes on a wide range of print requirements with all jobs procured qualifying for automatic CO2 offsetting.
  • Access to a reliable eco products range. One of the main reasons enterprises resist swapping to eco ranges is a lack of understanding of whether they are reliable and what benefits they can offer. Our ranges offered are carefully selected international and UK manufacturers including niche producers such as The Green & Good, a small UK manufacturer that incorporates reconstituted products in its range e.g., pencils made from recycled CD cases; pens made from recycled single-use plastic bottles; and compostable cups.
  • A new eco product classification system. Another reason why consumers avoid eco goods is a lack of clear information about those products – or too much information…for example there are over 30 accreditations for products in our ranges and to enable filtering on all of those would be information overload for consumers. That’s why we have provided a new eco product classification system, which has subsequently been adopted by our industry as the norm moving forwards, to ensure an improved user experience for product selection.. We want to make it easy for you to make the right choices.
  • Additional KPIs with trend analysis covering areas such as carbon footprint measurement, delivery method analysis (eco vs non-eco), and your environmental purchasing ratio.

Sustainability is a key part of how MBM Omega operates – and we want to help all our clients start making greener choices too. If you’d like to find out more about any of the above, please get in touch.
